Doctors of the World UK (DOW UK) was established in January 1998. DOW UK is part of the Médecins du Monde network, an international aid organisation that provides medical care and gives a voice to vulnerable people all over the world. Our network of volunteer healthcare professionals provide care in over 70 countries worldwide.
We help vulnerable people across the world, from young mothers and their babies in the slums of India to injured civilians in Libya, and victims of natural disasters like the earthquake in Haiti. Here in the UK we run Project:London where we help some of the community's most vulnerable, including victims of torture and people fleeing violence, pregnant mothers unable to access antenatal care, and babies in need of basic immunisations. We advocate tirelessly to make sure that everyone gets the healthcare they need. Because health is a human right.
Our offices run healthcare projects across Europe, caring for the most vulnerable members of the community who find themselves unable to access the healthcare they need.
DOW UK works across four main areas:
- Recruiting UK volunteers for overseas projects.
- Running Project: London, a free clinic open to those in the UK who are unable to access mainstream healthcare.
- Raising funds for our overseas and UK projects.
- Raising awareness of our campaigns and also of obstacles to healthcare witnessed by our volunteers.
