Professor Brian Gazzard CBE is an internationally renowned HIV expert and doctor at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, where he works as a gastroenterologist and general physician. He started the HIV unit in 1987, which is now the largest in Europe.
Brian Gazzard qualified at Cambridge and received his MD from there in 1983. He was awarded the Department of Health prize for distinguished achievement in 2002. He is the founding Chair of the British HIV Association (BHIVA), chairing the BHIVA Executive from 1995–2004, and Chair of the Department of Health’s Expert Advisory Group on AIDS. He was awarded a CBE for services to healthcare in the Queen’s Birthday Honours published on Saturday 11 June.
