Luis Valtuena Winner 2008

XIth Luis Valtuena International Humanitarian Photography Award

For the eleventh consecutive year, Médecins du Monde (also known as Doctors of the World) is touring the LUIS VALTUENA INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN PHOTOGRAPHY AWARD, a tribute to four humanitarians workers who were murdered in the field.

The images taken are the consequence of war, desolation and poverty. Yet they also capture the essence of humanitarian actions. This year’s winning picture, taken by the Italian photographer Giovanni Marrozzini, expresses what could be the real meaning of solidarity: an invisible touch, full of tenderness, support and proximity.

The previous Luis Valtueña Prize events have enjoyed great success, with the participation of more than 1,600 photographers from all continents and over 4,000 photographs shown,  becoming a reference within its own field. This year there is a special prize dedicated to the theme of Immigration and Human Rights in Europe.

The exhibition, featuring a retrospective and new works from 2008 opened in the UK, July, 13 2008 at:

The Gallery, Hooked on Books, 4 Holyrood Street, Chard, Somerset TA20 2AH

It will continue to tour throughout the UK and Europe.
