We can achieve such results thanks to the dedication of our volunteer doctors and nurses who give their time and who often themselves provide a medical resources to carry out the operation too.
DOW recruits small teams who work together for at least one mission a year and would ideally work together for several years.
The team is composed of 2-3 surgeons, 1-2 anesthetist and 2 operating theatre nurses. Each mission is short (10-14 days), and  takes place in the same country for the first 3-5 years.

Qualifications for surgeons:
Plastic surgeons
Senior experience (10- 15 years), including some overseas experience
Specialized in cleft lips/palate, maxillo facial surgery, and/or burns
Experience working with children
Teaching experience

Qualifications for anesthetists:
Anesthetist specialized in plastics
Senior experience (10-15 years), including experience working with very basic equipment and drugs
Specialized in cleft lips/palate and/or burns
Experience working with children
Teaching experience

Personal qualities
Able to work in a multicultural team
Long-term commitment
Independent and organized (complete records and photos must be kept to document each procedure)
